Technical Architecture fundamentals: Cloud

"Cloud" has been a buzzword in IT for years now, and with good reason. If optimally used, cloud solutions can be a huge catalyst for any company’s digital transformation, affecting much more than infrastructure alone. But what is ‘the cloud’ exactly? Isn’t it just a question of running your software in another data center?

This training explains the basic principles of the cloud. What do you need to know about XaaS? What impact does the cloud have on your architecture? What specific patterns are there? What are private, hybrid and multi-cloud? And especially: why should you care? Themes such as cloud-native architecture and microservices will be covered as well.

In the hands-on part of the training, we put what we’ve learned into practice by working out a miniature architecture together in Google Cloud.

Topics

  • Introduction to the cloud: XaaS, public/hybrid/private, cost, ...
  • Cloud-native architecture and cloud-native patterns such as microservices.
  • Setting up a cloud architecture on the Google Cloud platform (hands-on)
  • Keywords:FaaS, eventing, containerisation, real time databases, ...

Target Audience

  • Front-end developers who have little or no experience with the cloud and want to better understand how they can use more managed cloud solutions for their applications so that they can focus on the front-end.

  • Back-end developers who have little or no experience with the cloud and want to manage their own applications in the cloud or deliver reproducible artifacts.

  • IT operators who have little or no experience with the cloud and are interested in learning about basic cloud concepts.
