START YOUR CAREER AT AE

Start with what you already bring.

Maybe you’re looking for your first job after graduating. Maybe you already have some professional experience and want more challenge, better guidance or room to explore a different direction. Either way, you won’t be starting from the same place as everyone else. At AE, you work on real digital challenges, learn from experienced colleagues and build the professional skills to take on more responsibility. Along the way, you get room to discover which roles, technologies and client contexts fit you best.

Growth · Impact · People

What matters most at the start.

At the start of your career, Growth and People take the lead. You build strong foundations through real work, guidance and feedback, while experienced colleagues help you find your way.

Impact starts from day one too. You contribute where you can, ask questions and take on more responsibility as your skills and confidence grow.

What can you expect

Build your foundations by doing the work.

Starting out means learning a lot at once. You get real responsibility, with people around you to help when you need them.

Learn by doing

Work on real digital challenges and build your technical, functional and professional skills along the way.

Training helps. Coaching helps. But a lot of learning happens while doing the work, asking questions, trying things and using feedback.

Guidance that grows with you

Experienced colleagues, coaches and people in your domain help you find your way.

As your confidence and experience grow, so does the responsibility you take on.  The aim is not to make you dependent on guidance. It is to help you become increasingly confident in making your own choices.

Explore what fits you

You don’t need to decide your entire career from day one.

Different projects, technologies, client contexts and conversations with colleagues help you discover what you want to deepen, what gives you energy and where you want to develop further.

AI and your career

Learn to work with AI and know when to question it.

AI will be part of your professional toolkit from the start.

At AE, that means learning more than how to generate an answer. You learn to understand the problem first, assess whether AI output is correct and useful, recognise risks and explain the choices you make.

Use AI to explore, build and work more efficiently. But keep your own judgement switched on.

The AE Apprenticeship

Your first job comes with a lot of firsts.

For Young Graduates joining through the AE Apprenticeship, your career starts with an eight-month programme designed to make the transition from studying to professional life more structured and supported.

You start together with other graduates and combine training, coaching, reflection and practical experience.

The goal isn’t to keep you in training until you know everything. That day isn’t coming anyway.  It is to give you the skills, confidence and people around you to start contributing and keep learning as your responsibilities grow.

FAQ

Questions you may have before applying

Do I need professional experience to apply?

No. Start your career is for people at the beginning of their professional career. You may be coming straight from university or already have some professional experience behind you. If you already have experience, we build on what you have learned rather than treating you as if you are starting from zero.

Do I already need to know exactly what I want to do?

No. You may already know which area you want to specialise in, or you may still be figuring that out. Projects, training, different technologies and conversations with colleagues can help you discover which type of work and environment suits you best. You don’t need to have your entire career mapped out before you start.

Is the AE Apprenticeship for every Young Graduate?

Not necessarily. The AE Apprenticeship is a dedicated starting point for Young Graduates who join through the programme. It combines an intensive learning journey, coaching, reflection and practical experience. If you already have professional experience, your starting point and guidance will look different. We build on what you already know rather than asking you to start again.

When does the AE Apprenticeship start and how long does it last?

The Apprenticeship is an eight month programme with a shared start in September. It begins with an intensive two week kick off focused on both professional and technical development. After that, regular coaching, learning and reflection moments continue throughout the programme.

What kind of guidance will I get?

That depends partly on where you are in your career. Young Graduates can receive dedicated guidance from a personal mentor during their first years at AE. On a client project, your Short Term Coach is an important point of contact for your daily professional context, feedback and development. You also have people around you for longer term development, domain expertise and questions that go beyond your current project. The aim is to give you support without making every decision for you.

Will I work with clients straight away?

Learning at AE is closely connected to real work, but your exact start depends on your role and situation. For Young Graduates in the Apprenticeship, the programme is there to build professional foundations and prepare you for client work. AE then actively helps you look for a suitable first client assignment. As you gain experience, you take on more responsibility within that client context.

Do I have a say in which project I work on?

Yes, within the realities of consultancy. When an opportunity comes up, you get information about the context and expectations and can discuss whether the role fits your expertise, interests and development. That does not mean every project, technology or client is available at every moment. It does mean your perspective is part of the conversation when we look for a good match.

How much AI experience do I need before joining?

You don’t need to arrive knowing every AI tool. What matters is being willing to learn how to use AI critically and responsibly. That includes understanding the problem before reaching for a tool, checking whether output is reliable and thinking about quality, risk and context. Strong professional judgement matters just as much as knowing how to use the technology.

Where will I work?

That depends on your role and client assignment. AE has offices in Leuven, Antwerp, Ghent and Hasselt, while consultancy work can also involve spending time at a client location. For many consultancy roles, client presence is part of the job. Many of our clients are based in Brussels. In practice, that usually means two to three days a week on site, with flexibility around travel time, not a daily commute. Expectations around location and mobility are discussed during the recruitment process so you know what a role involves before making a decision.

Do I need to meet every requirement in a vacancy before applying?

No. Read the role and consider whether the work interests you and whether you have a relevant foundation to build on. You can tell us what you already bring and what you still want to learn. Starting your career means you are not expected to know everything yet.
